Burp fermentation branding
Project.
Branding for BURP.
Date.
November 2024.
Location.
Bristol.

Intro
BURP. approached me to create a full brand identity for their fermentation education business. Founder Romy wanted something approachable and modern - a shift away from the overly serious, scientific feel often associated with fermentation.

The challenge
Create a brand that feels fun and accessible, whilst still holding credibility.
Fermentation is often seen as intimidating or overly technical - the goal was to make it feel inviting, hands-on and relevant to everyday people.

Discovery
We kicked off with an in-depth session covering audience, positioning and long-term goals.
The brand needed to feel vibrant and welcoming, without losing its sense of knowledge and expertise.

Design direction
Three initial routes were explored, ranging from traditional craft through to a more playful, educational approach.
A bold, friendly direction was chosen - best suited to demystifying fermentation and making the brand feel accessible from the outset.

Identity development
A distinctive identity was built around a bubbling jar logo - simple, recognisable and full of character.
Supported by a vibrant colour palette inspired by fermented foods, modern typography and a playful visual language, the brand balances education with approachability.

Application
The identity was rolled out across social media, workshop materials, packaging and marketing touchpoints - creating a consistent and recognisable presence across both digital and physical space

The result
The brand helped BURP. establish a confident presence within Bristol’s food scene, attracting new workshop audiences and setting a strong foundation for growth.
It successfully balances being educational without feeling intimidating - making fermentation more accessible to a wider audience.
